There are flowers and there is pollen;
There are places and there are journeys.
If you stay still for long enough then all of life will pass through you;
should you move as fast as life then you will pass through all things.

Geoflowers

This is a project about growth and the migration of ideas.
Every day we travel from darkness into light and back into darkness.
Pollen and fungal spores fill the spaces between the air that we breathe, our bodies become a vessel for the passage of floral population.

POLLEN looks at a series of locations and the journeys that connect them. Each place and each route is explored through dance and costume. Oceanallover is based in Dumfries and Galloway on the edge of a recently designated Dark Sky Park, a place where people gather to look upwards and inwards. Angus Balbernie is based on the edge of a Dark Sky Park in Provence and the Slovak Wildlife Society is based in the Tatra Mountains and near to the Dark Sky Park at Poloniny.

These three places and the three groups of people that are associated with them form the basis of the locations.

The journeys between each place is made by a series of different people:
Dancers that draw on the earth;
Elderly people who draw with their bodies in the air;
Scientists who draw out the truth;
Writers who are drawn by meaning;
Children who draw us all.

Mushroom and Gardener

POLLEN is a series of performance events that are pollinated, grow and then move. Their inspiration is the marvellous shapes and connections that are present in the microscopic forms of pollen. Pollen is found in fossil records and used as a book from which to read our own history, pollen irritates millions of noses, perpetuates a race of floral beauty, swims through the air with its dark partner the spores, like plankton, making beauty from beauty and life out of death.

Here are some pictures taken by various members of the Oceanallover team at our POLLEN events during spring and summer 2013:
